The Indonesian Navy inaugurated the operation of two fast patrol type warships (PC) 60 meters KRI Marlin-877 and KRI Tuna-876 in Batam, Riau Islands, Thursday, September 7. These two ships will strengthen Indonesia's marine defense equipment.
The Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali said the two ships were the work of the sons and daughters of the Indonesian nation which was built at a shipyard in Batam.
"The ship will later strengthen marine security in Indonesian territory. The KRI Tuna-876 is placed in the Belawan Patrol Unit and KRI Marlin-877 is stationed in Makassar, South Sulawesi," said Kasal in Batam, Riau Islands, Antara, Thursday, September 7.
The warship KRI Tuna-876 has an overall length of 62.40 meters, a width of 8.80 meters, and a height of 19.37 meters with a speed of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 17 knots.
"This ship is armed with 1 unit of a 40 mm caliber cannon and two 12.7 caliber cannon units and a maximum of 50 crew members," he said.
In addition to the inauguration of the ship, Kasal also confirmed Marine Major Muhammad Arif as Commander of KRI Tuna-876. Meanwhile, KRI Marlin-877 has a technical specifications of 60 m long, 8.10 m wide, 4.85 m high, a maximum speed of 24 knots, a cruising speed of 17 knots, and a crew of a maximum of 50 people.
He mentioned that the naming of Marlin means philosophical which means sword and fast. The physiological ability of marline fish is one of the considerations in the selection of the ship's name.
"It is hoped that it can function as a patrol boat that has the ability to support all forms of law enforcement at sea," he said.
