BANDA ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to people on the coast of Aceh to be aware of rising sea tides or tidal flooding due to the impact of the Super Blue Moon phenomenon on August 31.

"This Super Blue Moon phenomenon has the potential to increase the maximum sea level," said Head of BMKG Geophysics Station Andi Azhar Rusdin in Banda Aceh as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 30.

He explained that Super Blue Moon is a phenomenon when there are two Super Moon phenomena in one month. This phenomenon will be seen in Aceh, if the weather conditions are sunny.

"It can be seen in Aceh if the weather conditions are sunny or not raining," he said.

Meanwhile, BMKG forecaster at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Meteorological Station, Aceh Besar Miftahul, said that the Super Blue Moon phenomenon occurs when the full moon coincides with theperigee, which is the orbital point of the moon when closest to the earth. At those times, the moon seemed slightly bigger and brighter than usual.

Usually, he said, this phenomenon will increase the maximum sea level for several parts of Indonesia. However, the Aceh area itself for sea wave heights is predicted to be still in the low to moderate category, which is about 0.5 to 2.5 meters.

"For water areas with the potential for high waves that can reach a height of 4 meters or more, namely the waters of North Sabang, the waters of West Aceh and the Indian Ocean of West Aceh," he said.

For the weather forecast in the Aceh region, he said, for the next three days in general, it will be cloudy to cloudy in the morning, but there is still the potential for rain for several areas in the afternoon to evening.

"This happens because of disturbances in the form of wind bends that form wind speed deceleration areas. This condition can increase the potential for rain cloud growth in the Aceh region," he said.
