Foreign Minister Emphasizes 4 Big Ruhs Of Indonesian Chairship In ASEAN

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stressed that Indonesia's four major chairmen within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, among others by laying down ASEAN's long-term vision and realizing peace in the Indo-Pacific.

Retno said that the first spirit of Indonesia's chairmanship was to lay down ASEAN's long-term vision. This long-term vision is very important because it will serve as a guide for ASEAN to walk forward.

"The foundation will begin to be built in the chairmanship of Indonesia in ASEAN," he said in an official transcript of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 28.

Retno indicated that the 43rd ASEAN Summit, which will take place on September 5-7 in Jakarta, will result in a new ASEAN concord (approval). Indonesia always produces a concord on every decision in ASEAN.

The second article is to make ASEAN more resilient in facing the challenges of the times, in accordance with the theme of chairmanship this year, namely ASEAN Matters which means ASEAN is important.

Retno said that there were several documents targeted to be the result of the ASEAN 43rd Summit, namely related to the decision-making process, especially when ASEAN faced a crisis and institutional strengthening of ASEAN based in Jakarta.

Ruh ketiga keketuaan Indonesia adalah menjadikan Asia Tenggara sebagai pusat pertumbuhan. Terkait hal itu, ada beberapa isu yang akan dibahas, seperti ketahanan pangan, ketahanan energi, kesehatan, stabilitas keuangan, dan akses pasar yang terbuka dan adil.

Retno said the 43rd ASEAN Summit would agree on various cooperation related to these issues with partner countries.

"And everything is trying to be translated into concrete cooperation," he said.

The fourth spirit is to maintain ASEAN's centrality in maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, which is now the stage of competition for two world powers, namely China and the United States.

Retno explained that Indonesia will encourage concrete cooperation in the economic sector because he believes inclusive cooperation can ease tensions that occur in the Indo-Pacific.

The Foreign Minister said all documents expected to be ratified at the summit were still being discussed. ASEAN diplomats and partners are still negotiating to finalize the documents that will be the result of next month's summit.
