Sepaku Semoi IKN Dam Equipped With Floating PLTS

SEPAKU - Director of Dams and Lakes of the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Adenan Rasyid revealed that the Sepaku Semoi Dam in the State Capital (IKN) Nusantara can be equipped with a floating solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW) to produce new and renewable energy.

"Yesterday we held an online seminar related to the use of dams in Indonesia as new renewable energy. Sepaku Semoi Dam is one of the objects," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 22.

This is also supported by the issuance of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Regulation Number 7 of 2023 concerning Dams, which states that in terms of space utilization in reservoir inundation areas for floating solar power plants exceeds 20 percent of the surface area of reservoir puddles on normal water levels.

Meanwhile, the technical study must obtain recommendations from the Dam Security Commission.

"Our assumption is that one hectare is 1 MW, so 20 percent of the 500 hectares is around 100 MW and maybe more. The Ministry of PUPR only provides a place and this recommendation permit is part of increasing the value of dam benefits," said Adenan Rasyid.

In essence, according to him, the Sepaku Semoi Dam at IKN is ready to support the use of new and renewable energy such as floating PLTS.

The Sepaku Semoi Dam is targeted to enter the inaugural water filling stage or impounding at the end of August 2023.

The Sepaku Semoi Dam was built to support the provision of raw water and flood control in the IKN Nusantara area.

The Sepaku Semoi Dam can supply raw water needs of 2,500 liters/second, as much as 2000 liters/second for IKN Nusantara and the remaining 500 liters/second for Balikpapan.

Currently, the realization of the physical development of the Sepaku Semoi Dam has reached 92.96 percent, with a financial realization of 90.39 percent.
