Kemenkominfo Block Access 14,297 Illegal Financial Product Sites

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) has cut off access to 14,297 websites and applications containing content containing illegal financial products.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi stated that the circulation of illegal financial products is detrimental to the community and is not registered with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (CoFTRA) and Bank Indonesia (BI).

"From 2016 to August 21, 2023, we have cut off access and taken down (decreasing) on 14,297 sites and content related to various illegal financial products reported by sector supervisory agencies," said the Minister of Communication and Information, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 22.

According to Budi Arie, illegal financial product sites and applications that have been cut off access are illegal crypto asset mining, illegal investment providers, investments with unlicensed stock sales mode, to the circulation of counterfeit money.

There is also the provision of tracing (buying and selling) illegal commodities including robotic trading activities. We certainly don't remain silent," the Minister of Communication and Information emphasized.

In addition to terminating site access, applications and reducing content, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics also handles from upstream to downstream. At the upstream level, the Ministry of Communication and Information increases public digital literacy and skills through campaigns, education, and socialization of the National Digital Literacy Movement in collaboration with 141 partners.

In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics provides various training and educational activities for all Indonesian people.

"At the middle level, we are monitoring and handling illegal financial product content on the internet by collaborating with social media platform managers to take down illegal financial product content and related sites," said Minister Budi Arie.

At the downstream level, Kominfo provides data support to the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) to enforce the law against illegal financial products makers and spreaders. However, Minister Budi Arie still reminded the public to be more careful and careful.

"With increasingly significant access to digital finance, we hope that the wider public and the public will be more careful in choosing the digital products used," said the Minister of Communication and Information.
