Gibran Affirms Never Proposes Himself To Be A Vice Presidential Candidate: Only People Are Noisy

Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasized that he had never volunteered as a vice presidential candidate to accompany future presidential candidates who contested the 2024 General Election.

The advancement of Gibran (35) in the 2024 presidential election itself is still hindered by Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu).

Article 169 letter q stipulates the minimum age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates is 40 years. The law is being sued at the Constitutional Court.

"I've never volunteered or offered myself, I've never been like that. People are noisy," said Gibran when giving a statement in Solo, Monday, August 21.

As one of the regional heads of the young age, Gibran said there were no obstacles during his time as a leader, even at first many parties doubted it.

"There are no obstacles. Currently, many regions and political parties provide space for young people," said President Joko Widodo's eldest son.

Gibran emphasized that the involvement of young people in the political world is quite important. What's more, currently many of them have a high concern for various fields that can be developed.

"Now young people are very concerned. For example in sports," said Gibran.

However, Gibran emphasized that it does not mean that the regions in Indonesia must be led by the younger generation. The most important thing is that these leaders know the needs of the times, both from the younger generation and the previous generation.

"The important thing is to understand the challenges of the times and the current needs, for millennials, Gen Z, and others," said Gibran.

The name Gibran himself is predicted to be a vice presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Previously, it was said that he would accompany presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, recently, the party from Gibran, PDIP also did not rule out the possibility that the Mayor of Solo would be paired with the PDIP presidential reading, Ganjar Pranowo.
