WhatsApp Is Developing A Feature To Check Image Authenticity

JAKARTA - Meta is developing a reverse image search feature on WhatsApp Web, which allows users to quickly upload images to Google and verify the authenticity of the image.

This feature is designed to increase the detection of manipulated content or misinformation, making it easier for users to ensure the credibility of the images shared.

Based on a screenshot shared by WABtainfo, users will be able to select the "Search on web" option in the image menu sent or received.

By selecting the option, the image can be directly searched for on Google, without having to change the application first. Later, users can find more information, related to image original sources and so on.

This feature can really help users in mitigating fraud using artificial intelligence (AI) technology such as deepfakes that are currently booming.

In addition, this feature will provide additional layer of security by giving users tools to detect potentially deceptive content without leaving the app.

Because fake content or hoaxes continue to spread through digital platforms, especially instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp and Telegram, this feature can really help users.

However, there is no definite schedule for when this feature will be released widely. However, WABetainfo noted, this feature will be released in future WhatsApp updates.
