IPB Student Burned To Death On Campus, Police Intervene

The case of a student at S2 IPB University, Laila Atika Sari (26), which caught fire in the laboratory was investigated by the police. The police's first step was to investigate the crime scene (TKP).

The police immediately held a crime scene processing at the IPB University laboratory, last Monday. The National Police Headquarters Laboratory examined the GC Laboratory of Nutrition and Livestock Food Sciences, 4th floor of the Faculty of Livestock.

The Head of the Dramaga Police, AKP Budi Sehabudin, said that the incident that killed a student with a master's degree was still under investigation. Including, related to the explosion that allegedly accompanied the victim's fire incident in the laboratory.

"The investigation stage is still related to the (fire) incident," said Budi, Tuesday, August 22.

Budi explained that the crime scene was based on the incident caused by an explosion when the victim was conducting research on the fat analysis of feed materials using the soxlet method.

"The victim suffered burns due to the explosion and at the time of the incident the student who was around the laboratory had time to help and tried to extinguish the fire," he explained.

The victim was rushed to Medika Dramaga Hospital and given medical assistance. However, due to serious burns, the victim was referred to the RSCM for more intensive treatment. However, quite severe burns claimed Laila's life.

The police will also work with the IPB University team to investigate the case. The IPB Chancellor, Arif Satria, has set a step by forming three teams.

He said the Investigative Team would cooperate with the police to explore the chronology of the details of the incident, including checking standard procedures (SOPs) and other things to know.

Second, the Laboratory Evaluation Team will check all laboratories and facilities at the IPB, especially laboratory tools that are at high risk when used.

Third, the work safety team on campus, to ensure work safety, both in academic activities, community service, and in terms of campus life in general, including traffic order and safety.

"Most of these teams come from the Risk Management Office (KMR) which will evaluate based on guidelines and instructions for implementing the laboratory management system that has been owned," he said
