SLEMAN - The Sleman Regency Government, Yogyakarta Special Region will form a Waste Management Regional Owned Enterprise (BUMD) to handle waste management services and waste problems in the region.

"Currently we are studying the creation of a legal basis for the establishment of this business entity," said Deputy Regent of Sleman Danang Maharsa as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 11.

According to him, currently efforts are being made to quickly realize this waste management BUMD because it makes a new business entity a very long process.

"If you want to form a business entity with a new legal basis, of course it will be very long, because later there must also be approval from the legislature," he said.

One alternative that can be done is by utilizing the existing BUMD by adding the type of business service that can be handled.

"This will later be sought by BUMDs who are less productive, then their types of businesses will be replaced or added with waste management, so there is no need to create a new legal entity," he said.

Danang said that this BUMD will later manage the Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) in Sleman Regency, by collaborating with cleaners or garbage transporters who have been quite a lot in Sleman.

"The plan is for Sleman to create three TPSTs, namely for the west, central and eastern regions. Currently, the TPST that has been built is only in the eastern region, namely the Tamanmartani TPST in Kalasan, while others are still in process," he said.

The establishment of this waste management BUMD is also the commitment of the Sleman Regency Government in dealing with waste problems, which in recent times there has often been an overcapacity at the Kartamantul Final Disposal Site (TPA) (Yogyakarta, Sleman and Bantul) in Piyungan Bantul.

"So far, TPA Kartamantul has accommodated waste from the cities of Yogyakarta, Sleman Regency and Bantul which are managed by DIY Province. By establishing BUMD for waste management, this means that Sleman is also responsible and thinks about waste problems from Sleman," he said.
