Panji Gumilang Detention Decision Awaits 1x24 Hours

JAKARTA - The head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Panji Gumilang, has been named a suspect in the alleged blasphemy case. However, his detention will be determined within 1x24 hours.

"Currently, investigators still have 1x24 hours, so our investigation process is currently only carrying out the arrest process," said Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro to reporters, Tuesday, August 1.

Moreover, until now, Panji Gumilang is still undergoing the examination process as a suspect. If the examination process is not completed today, it will be continued tomorrow.

For that reason, investigators have not yet determined the detention of Panji Gumilang.

"For more details, we will see the progress of the investigation which was carried out tonight," said Djuhandani.

In this case, Panji Gumilang was charged with Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations which carries a penalty of 10 years in prison.

Then, Article 45A paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE with a threat of 6 years in prison.

Finally, Panji Gumilang was also charged with Article 156 A of the Criminal Code. In this article, the penalty is 5 years in prison.
