MANOKWARI - Manokwari district government, West Papua allocated a budget of IDR 8.9 billion to help religious leaders in Manokwari this year.

Head of the National Unity and Political Agency of Manokwari, Jaka Mulyanta in Manokwari, Saturday said the assistance was given to 1,799 religious leaders in Manokwari. Each religious figure gets IDR 5 million per year.

"Our data, 524 Muslims, eight Hindus, four Buddhists and 1,263 Christians. The aid is directly transferred through the accounts of each religious figure," Jaka said as quoted by ANTARA, Sabt, July 29.

Jaka explained that the assistance was given to religious leaders who took care of houses of worship. Each house of worship gets an allocation of two people. Meanwhile, a large house of worship received an allocation of three people.

"Of course we coordinate with the organization that houses them. For Muslims with the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), while for Christians we coordinate with the Manokwari Inter-Church Coordinating Board (BKAG). Likewise with Hinduism and Buddhism," he said.

According to him, the provision of assistance is a form of government appreciation for religious leaders. The existence of religious leaders has an important role to play in forming a religious society so as to help increase the morale of the community.

"Of course building human resources in Manokwari is not only outward but also spiritual. By building the spirit of the citizens, it is hoped that it can strengthen and strengthen national unity, unity and resilience," he said.

Jaka explained that the assistance had long been given by the Manokwari Regency government. However, in the past two years the provision of assistance has been delegated from the Kesra Section to Kesbangpol.
