JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) admits that it does not yet know the basis of the Makassar District Court (PN) Panel of Judges handed down a verdict against the inactive Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng today, Monday, July 17. The reason is that the consideration of the decision was not read out as in general.

"We do not yet know the basis for the consideration of the panel of judges because it turns out that the decision was not read out by the panel of judges according to the reading of the decision on corruption in general," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Monday, July 17.

Even so, the KPK said that Eltinus was proven to have carried out a narrow practice by being acquitted. "However, according to the panel of judges, it does not include a crime," said Ali.

Regarding the judge's decision, Ali said the anti-corruption commission appreciated it. However, the anti-corruption commission will take further legal steps.

The follow-up steps will be taken after the KPK receives a complete copy of the verdict. "We appreciate the decision of the panel of judges, even though we will also immediately take the next legal stance and steps so that the case currently does not have permanent legal force," he said.

"KPK hopes that the panel of judges at the Makassar District Court will immediately send a copy of the full verdict for us to study further," Ali continued.

As previously reported, Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng was officially detained by the KPK after being forcibly picked up. He became a suspect in alleged corruption in the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church in Mimika Regency, Papua.

Apart from Eltinus, there were two other suspects named by the KPK but have not been detained. They are the Head of the Welfare Section of the Mimika Regional Secretariat who is the official commitment maker (PPK) Marthen Sawy and the Director of PT Waringin Megah (WM), Teguh Anggara.

In this case, the KPK suspects that there was a discrepancy, including the period of work when the church was built and the lack of work volume even though payments had been made. As a result, the state lost up to Rp21.6 billion from the contract value of Rp46 billion.

Various arrangements were allegedly made by Eltinus. One of them directly appointed PT Waringin Megah, led by Teguh Anggara.

From this appointment, it is suspected that there was an agreement to provide a fee of 10 percent, of which 7 percent was for Eltinus and 3 percent was Teguh.

In addition, it is suspected that there was a subcontractor from another company, namely PT Kuala Persada Papua Nusantara (KPPN) who worked without a contract agreement. Eltinus said that the KPK also received around Rp4.4 billion in this case.
