JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of Lampung Chusnunia Chalim asked all regions in his area to be free from cemplung latrines. The public is asked not to defecate carelessly. "Open Defecation Free (ODF) or not defecating carelessly is important for the community. Regencies and cities must also be free from cemplung latrines," Chusnunia Chalim said in Bandar Lampung, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 11. The use of cemplung latrines is considered to have not met health standards, as a result of the possibility of polluting groundwater due to the depth of the latrine hole being too short, thereby risking disease. "The use of cemplung latrines is indeed better than defecating carelessly, but this can cause residents to get sick because they consume groundwater that has been polluted by bacteria. The use of healthy latrines needs to be our common concern," he said. He explained that in addition to making healthy latrines, the completion of open defecation free (ODF) which is included in the five Pillars of Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) which is followed by cross-sectors related to need to be implemented as an effort to prevent stunting cases in the community. "This stunting is also related to environmental cleanliness, so I previously linked it to ODF because in the village industrial waste pollution is relatively maintained and does not become a big problem, compared to urban areas. But it is not only waste that is dangerous but the absence of latrines, so residents defecate carelessly, this is also risky," he said. According to him, poor sanitation can trigger digestive disease due to bateri, and disrupt the fulfillment of nutrition in children, which disrupts the growth and development of children which causes stunting. "It will be dangerous for the health of the child when the fly is in the dirt above the food. So ODF, healthy latrines, plus always maintaining cleanliness before food by washing hands is the key to preventing stunting in addition to providing balanced nutrition. Therefore, parents must pay attention to these aspects," he added.

It is known that there have been several ODF districts in Lampung covering the districts of Pringsewu, Waykanan, South Lampung and Metro City.
