70 Farmers Who Accompany Jokowi Harvesting Corn Are From 3 Villages in Keerom Papua

PAPUA - As many as 70 farmers were prepared to harvest corn with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the food estate location, Wambes Village, Keerom Regency, Papua.

Keerom Regent Piter Gusbager said the 70 farmers came from three villages namely Wambes, Yamara, and Wonorejo.

According to Gusbager, 60 percent of the people of Keerom Regency are farmers and a contribution of 32 percent of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in the area comes from the agricultural sector.

"This means that Keerom Regency is an agriculture-based area, so agricultural problems must be resolved because then problems, such as handling extreme poverty and improving people's welfare, can be handled," said Gusbager in Keerom, Antara, Thursday, July 6.

He explained that agriculture is the main symbol of community empowerment in the area so it is hoped that local farmers will continue to increase their enthusiasm for work.

"Because the agricultural products from Keerom Regency include vegetables, livestock, corn, and crops, most of them are sent to Jayapura City," he said.

He said that President Jokowi's visit to the location of the food estate  Keerom gave enthusiasm and motivation to the corn farmers.

"So we hope that all farmers will be more enthusiastic in the future because they are very good at farming," he said.

President Jokowi is scheduled to harvest corn at a food estate location, Keerom Regency, on Thursday (6/7) on a two-hectare land with a yield of around 10 tons of corn at a price of IDR 5,000 per kilogram.
