BATAM - The Batam City Government, Riau Islands, has updated the pontoon pier on Nganang Island with construction funds available at IDR 1.3 billion. The Head of the Batam City Transportation Service, Salim, explained that after going through the auction process, there would be an appointment of the winner of the auction and then proceed to the contract process. "After the contract process, we will hold an initial meeting. This meeting will involve the Batam Kejari as a companion,” said Salim in Batam, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 3. According to him, until now the condition of the pontoon pier on Nganang Island is no longer effective, especially when the sea water is high. The Pondoon Pier of Nganang Island is usually used by residents as a means of transportation between islands and used as a loading and unloading of food for the residents of Nganang Island. "That is the transportation of residents to the islands and even loading and unloading of basic necessities for residents," he said. He added that the materials used to make pontoon piers are HIGH-Density Polyethylene (HDPe) which is more environmentally friendly. "God willing, it will be more waterproof and stainless so that it will last longer. The Ponton is smaller than in Batam," he said. Salim hopes that the auction process can run smoothly according to estimation, so that the construction of the pontoon pier can be carried out in early August 2023. "“Hopefully the auction process will run smoothly, so construction can be carried out in August. October can be used," said Salim. Previously, the Batam City Government also updated the pontoon dock on the backpadang border island. The head of the Batam City Transportation Service, Salim in Batam, said Thursday that the pontoon dock renewal was also carried out at the Sekupang port.

He mentioned that the extension of the pontoon pier behindpadang and Sekupang uses HIGH-Density Polyethylene (HDPe) materials that are more environmentally friendly and do not contain iron.
