Aftershocks, Parigi Moutong Regency Government Extends Disaster Emergency Response Until June 26

PARIGI - Pemerintah Kabupaten Parigi Moutong, Sulawesi Tengah memperpanjang 14 hari ke depan kegiatan tanggap darurat penanggulangan bencana banjir di Kecamatan Balinggi dan Torue.

"Today the emergency response limit is extended for the next 14 days from June 13 to 26, 2023," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the Parigi Moutong PariBD Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Amiruddin, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 12. He explained that the extension of the emergency response period considers various factors, because currently the situation has not recovered, especially on Sunday, June 11, aftershocks occurred but did not have an impact. Therefore, the local government during the extension period will focus on handling infrastructure, especially river normalization and repairing water channel embankments.

"With an emergency response period of 14 days, it is not sufficient for river normalization. It takes quite a long time, so with this consideration, the government will extend the emergency response period," he said. He explained that the impact of the flood disaster in the two sub-districts was around 816 meters of embankments and natural channels were damaged so that serious handling was needed.

He said that the flow of nature and irrigation channels are needed by residents to irrigate rice fields, because farmers are currently in the planting season.

"About 386 hectares of gardens and rice fields were damaged due to the impact of the flood on May 29. And currently, mud and wood materials are still scattered. This also requires serious handling because wood materials must be removed from the rice fields," he said.

He added that from the results of the review, it was found that a number of embankments and river flows had collapsed, so it needed quick and measurable handling. "We also continue to serve the basic fulfillment of disaster victims, and until now around 41 people from 12 families (KK) residents of Catur Karya Village, Balinggi District are still displaced," said Amiruddin.
