Attorney General: Law Enforcement Needs Sensitivity To Enforce The Law On Domestic Violence Cases

JAKARTA - Prosecutor of the Jampidum Intermediate Prosecutor's Office, Erni Mustikasari, said law enforcement officers need to have sensitivity in enforcing the law on domestic violence cases.

"Sensitivity is needed, law is not a routine job, yes, or equated with business as usual, so all should use heart, logic, intelligence. You must be able to frame cases per case, not just because you want the job to be finished quickly," said Erni Mustikasari as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 31.

According to Erni Mustikasari, there are many aspects that law enforcement needs to explore in hearing cases.

According to Erni, the history of violence can still be considered that can relieve the perpetrators.

His party gave an example in the case of a wife in Solo, Central Java, who cut her husband's genitals.

There is a history of violence in the past behind the case.

"In that case, the wife is fighting for her love for her husband, she has sacrificed her body and soul, changed religion, while her husband has never changed. Dating another woman, the wife gets bad treatment from her husband's family," said Erni Mustikasari.

He said the story behind the occurrence of a criminal act could be considered as an assessment for law enforcers to decide the case.

His party said this was a neoclassical flow of punishment.

The flow of punishment, said Erni Mustikasari, encourages many judicial policies based on objective circumstances in assessing a case.

"So it's not like before, wearing horse glasses, article A is like this, article B is punished like this," he said.
