The Bekasi Regency Government (Pemkab) is transporting 150 meters of garbage that clogs the flow of Jambe River, Satria Jaya Village, North Tambun District.
Head of UPTD for Waste Management Region 2 of the Bekasi Regency Environmental Service (DLH) Sumardi said the waste transported was dominated by plastic and wood sticks that were stuck right under the Kramat Mundu bridge since a few days ago.
"We from UPTD 2 together with other stakeholders deployed one long arm heavy equipment for the execution of the garbage transport stuck in Jambe River," he said in Bekasi, Wednesday, May 10, which was confiscated by Antara.
Sumardi revealed that the majority of the waste came from upstream and was carried away by the current so that it got stuck in Kramat Mundu, which incidentally was in the downstream area.
His party deployed 12 units of garbage trucks, of which one truck can carry up to seven tons of garbage.
"So the total waste reaches approximately 84 tons. This is dominated by shipments of plastic and tree trunks, with the most banana trees," he said.
The waste will be dried first before being taken to the Burangkeng Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Setu District.

Sumardi hopes that people will care more about the environment and not throw garbage into the river which has the potential to cause floods and drought in Bekasi Regency.
"The impact of this waste if it is not cleaned, it is extraordinary. During the rainy season there can be flooding, so the waste will be feared to enter residential areas. Meanwhile, during the dry season, water can dry up in the downstream part because the flow is clogged with garbage," he said.
Based on observations at the location, the garbage in the Jambe River flow is dominated by plastic waste and wooden sticks. Even the officers had difficulty in the transportation process.
There is also a eight-meter-high mahogany tree caught under the bridge, causing the flow of water in Jambe River to run smoothly.
