Erdogan Calls 2 Military Leaders In Sudan Urges Protection For Turkish Citizens

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a phone call with two hostile military leaders in Sudan to emphasize the importance of protecting Turkish citizens and institutions amid the conflict in the country. According to a statement by the Directorate of Communications, Thursday, April 20, Erdogan made a separate phone call with the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fettah al-Burhan and Deputy Chair and leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo. In the telephone conversation, quoted from Anadolu via Antara, President Erdogan said Turkey was paying attention to the development of the situation in Sudan and affirming Ankara's sincere support for the transition process in Sudan from the start. Erdogan said the recent events had undermined the struggle that had been going on since 2018 and jeopardized the achievement of the transition period. He invited the parties to end the conflict and bloodshed and return to the dialogue table. Erdogan also asked Sudan to take the necessary steps to ensure community unity and resolve problems with common sense and an open mind. Erdogan further said Turkey would continue to support Sudan and its people in the transition process and be ready to provide all kinds of support, including hosting possible mediation initiatives.

He also stressed that appropriate action must be taken to ensure safe use of Khartoum Airport to ensure Turkey's transportation returns to its homeland and opens a corridor for humanitarian aid.
