JAKARTA - A man has been charged with attempting to murder two elderly men by arson after they left a mosque in the City of London and Birmingham, England.

Mohammed Abbkr, 28, is alleged to have sprayed the two elderly men with a substance before setting them on fire in a separate incident in Ealing, west London, on 27 February. As well as in Birmingham on Monday, said the West Midlands Police, quoted from CNN, March 24.

Abbkr, from Edgbaston in Birmingham, central England, appeared in court on Thursday morning, West Midlands police said in a statement. He has given no indication of a defense on either charge, PA Media reported, and he remains in custody.

The man attacked in Birmingham on Monday was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not expected to be life-threatening.

"It is believed that the man, who was walking home from the Dudley Road mosque, was approached by a man who spoke to him briefly, before spraying him with an unknown substance and then setting his jacket on fire, causing burns to his face," West Midlands police said.

Local residents in the area were asked by the police to turn in CCTV, doorbell recordings or other videos that could assist in the investigation of the case.

Earlier, an 82-year-old man suffered severe burns to his face and arms after being attacked near an Islamic center in Ealing last month.
