KPK Names New Suspect In Bribery Case Of South Buru Regent

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named a new suspect in the bribery case of former South Buru Regent Tagop Sudarsono Soulisa. The determination was made after the examination of the facts of the trial.

"The investigative team then developed the investigation process and determined that there were other parties to give bribes in the implementation of various projects in the South Buru Regency Government, Maluku", said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, March 17.

It has not been detailed who the suspects are in this case, including the description of criminal acts or the alleged article. The search for strong evidence to prove the practice of rasuah is still being carried out by investigators.

The public is asked to give the KPK time to work and oversee the ongoing process. "The process of collecting evidence is still ongoing until later we consider that there has been sufficient fulfilment of the evidence", he said.

"The public can participate in overseeing and supervising the process of investigating this case and as a form of transparency, so we also openly convey any developments", Ali continued.

Previously, the Corruption Court Panel of Judges at the Ambon District Court sentenced former South Buru Regent Tagop Sudarsono Soulisa to six years in prison for being proven to have accepted bribes and gratuities continuously during his tenure as South Buru Regent from 2011 to 2021.

In its ruling, the judges also sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of IDR 300 million, subsidiary to three months in prison but were not sentenced to pay compensation.

The judge's decision was lighter than the demands of the KPK prosecutor's team for 10 years in prison, a fine of IDR 500 million, subsidiary to one year in prison and compensation of IDR 27.5 billion, minus several assets in the form of buildings, land, and cars that the KPK had confiscated.
