The Issue Of Stopping Election Stages, Ministry Of Home Affairs Ensures The 2024 Election Is On Schedule

JAKARTA - The Director General (Dirjen) for Politics and General Administration (Polpum) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Bahtiar said the government ensures that the 2024 elections are held according to schedule amidst the widespread issue of stopping the election stages.

This certainty is in line with state administrators other than the KPU, Bawaslu, and DKPP who are ready to make the 2024 elections successful, and the government has even committed to supporting funding.

"In conclusion, all state administrators apart from the KPU (General Election Commission), Bawaslu (Election Supervisory Body), and DKPP (Election Organizers Honorary Council) are all 'on' (ready). That's about it," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 16th.

According to Bahtiar, although a number of issues overshadowed the holding of the elections, they were considered part of the challenges, not obstacles to holding the 2024 elections.

He said the government and election organizers, including the KPU, Bawaslu, and DKPP, in the last three years, had prepared everything for the holding of the 2024 elections. The KPU, he added, had even recruited election organizers at the sub-district and sub-district levels to make the elections successful.

He described four indicators for achieving a successful holding of elections. First, the elections run safely and smoothly.

To support this, Bahtiar said the Ministry of Home Affairs had held meetings with the TNI/Polri and the Attorney General's Office to support election security.

Second, is public participation. To promote public participation, the Ministry of Home Affairs regularly holds webinars to invite all components of society to succeed in the 2024 Election. This activity has been carried out for the last four months.

Third, holding elections does not trigger conflict as stated by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian. In that case, Bahtiar conveyed that the press played a role in preventing the emergence of conflicts in elections.

Finally, national and regional development continues in the midst of the election. Related to this, he said, the Ministry of Home Affairs ensures that national and regional development continues, for example by asking regional governments to keep the economy growing well amidst the world economic turmoil.

"If it goes well, we will also feel the results," he said.
