JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej was reported to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) today, Tuesday, March 14. He was accused by Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) of receiving gratuities.

"(Report, red) regarding allegations of corruption, the potential for allegations could be extortion in office or gratuities or something else, I mentioned state administrators with Deputy Minister status, I call Deputy Minister with the initials EOSH," said IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, March 14.

Sugeng did not mention clearly the figure of the Deputy Minister on the grounds of the presumption of innocence. However, the abbreviation refers to Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej.

"So, this is related to the flow of funds of around Rp. 7 billion which were received through two people who were recognized by EOSH as their assistants (personal assistants)," he said.

When reporting, Sugeng brought documents related to his complaint. One of them, is evidence of transfers and conversations related to this report.

The criminal incidents reported by Sugeng occurred in April-October 2022. The KPK was asked to follow up on this report.

"It is important that we submit this report to the KPK first," said Sugeng.

Separately, Edward refused to respond further to IPW's report. He said this incident was a matter of professional relations between his two sons, YAR and YAM.

"The main problem is between my personal assistant YAR and YAM as lawyers and their client Sugeng (Chairman of IPW)," said Edward in his written statement.

"Please confirm further to YAR and YAM which Sugeng mentioned in his complaint," concluded the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights.
