MAGELANG - The City Government of Magelang, Central Java is quick to anticipate the impact of the eruption of Mount Merapi by spraying in public places to eliminate volcanic ash.

Acting Regional Secretary of Magelang City Larsita in Magelang, Sunday, March 12, said that after the ash rain occurred, Saturday, March 11 in the Magelang City area, a coordination meeting was held regarding the impact of the Merapi eruption.

He explained the results of the coordination meeting, the Magelang City Government took several steps to deal with the ash rain that flushed the city of Magelang.

"The first step, the Magelang City Government through the Environment Agency, BPBD, UPT Damkar, and PDAM spray in several public areas, both parks and roads in Magelang City. The spray starts from Magelang City Square and its surroundings on Saturday night and today continues in other areas," he said.

He said the activity was assisted by Satpol PP staff, Transportation Service, PMI volunteers, and Tagana.

In addition, masks were also distributed at several points on roads to help people avoid respiratory problems.

"The municipal government is also distributing medicines related to eye irritation and respiratory problems. All medicines have been prepared by Puskesmas and the auxiliary health center for the people of Magelang City who need it," he said.

Deputy Mayor of Magelang M. Mansyur appreciated the quick steps taken by the local municipal government.

Mansyur appealed to the public to work together to clean their environment from Merapi's eruption dust. This is important so that the City of Magelang remains clean and the health of its citizens is maintained.

He said that his party had anticipated the arrival of the community regarding the khataman event ahead of Ramadan which was held on Sunday (12/3) at the Grand Mosque and Kyai Park Langgeng Ecopark. The venue is confirmed to be clean and the people who come are provided with masks.
