Richard Eliezer's Sentence Is Lighter Than Ferdy Sambo, National Police Headquarters: Respect The Judge's Decision

JAKARTA - The Head of the Public Relations Division at the National Police Headquarters, Inspector General Pol Dedi Prasetyo, believes that the decision of the South Jakarta District Court against Richard Eliezer or Bharada E must be respected by all parties.

"Yes, all parties must respect the court judge's decision," said Dedi, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 15.

Dedi was reluctant to comment further regarding Bharada E's decision, which was far lighter than Ferdy Sambo, who was sentenced to death.

Additionally, in this case, Bharada E has not yet undergone an ethics trial for the criminal case that ensnared him. This includes Bripka Ricky Rizal Wibowo who has not yet been tried on ethics.

In this regard, Dedi has not announced when the ethics trial will be, because he is waiting for the Professional and Security Division (Divpropam) of the National Police to carry out the trial.

"For the (ethics) trial we will wait for information from Propam first," said Dedi.

Previously, Dedi said, the ethics trial on Bharada E and Ricky Rizal Wibowo would be carried out after the criminal verdict was final or legally enforceable.

In a trial at the South Jakarta District Court, Wednesday (13/2), the panel of judges chaired by Wahyu Imam Santoso sentenced defendant Richard Eliezer to one year and six months imprisonment.

The judge stated that Richard Eliezer was legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 340 subsidiary Article 338 juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code

This sentence was lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday (18/1).

Previously, the public prosecutor's team demanded that the defendant in the premeditated murder case, Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat (Brigadier J), Richard Eliezer, serve a twelve-year prison sentence during a trial to read out the charges at the South Jakarta District Court.

Richard Eliezer is one of the five defendants in the premeditated murder case of Brigadier J, namely Ferdy Sambo, Putri Candrawathi, Kuat Maruf, and Ricky Rizal Wibowo. However, this Polri officer with the rank of Bharada received a lighter sentence than the other four defendants.

The South Jakarta District Court judge at a hearing on Monday, February 13, sentenced Ferdy Sambo to death. Then, at the hearing on Tuesday 14 February, the defendant Putri Candrawathi was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Kuat Maruf was sentenced to 15 years in prison and Ricky Rizal was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
