511 Earthquake Victims in Garut Proposed to Receive Assistance

GARUT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, West Java, determined that as many as 511 houses were damaged by the Garsela Fault activity earthquake in Samarang and Pasirwangi Districts, receiving housing repair assistance from the local government.

"The results of the field assessment recorded that the number was 511, with light, moderate, and severe damage", said the Chief Executive of the Garut Regency BPBD, Satria Budi, quoted from Antara, Sunday, February 12.

He said the Garut Regency Government has deployed several officers from related agencies to deal with areas affected by the earthquake natural disaster in Pasirwangi and Samarang Districts on February 1, 2023.

The results of the field checks, he said, were that the number of damaged houses in the two sub-districts was 511 houses, which would then be proposed to receive assistance for home repairs according to the Regional Budget's capabilities.

"After the data is collected, the next plan is to submit it for improvement, and of course, it will be seen from the capability of the Regional Budget", he said.

Regarding the proposal for assistance ranging from IDR 2.5 million to IDR 5 million per house, he said, the amount is still in the form of a proposal under discussion and has not been determined because currently the calculation is still being assessed by the Garut Housing and Settlements Office.

He revealed that the government is also preparing another form of assistance in the form of providing building materials available at the Housing and Settlements Agency for houses with minor damage.

"So later it can also help procure building materials for those with minor damage", he said.

Regarding the current condition of the people in the earthquake-affected areas, said Satria, it was normal, and the people were carrying out their activities as usual.

"People are already doing their usual activities, even on the first day", he said.

Previously, an earthquake activity of the Garsela Fault with a magnitude of 4.3 shook the Garut area which caused damage to residents' houses in the hilly areas of Pasirwangi and Samarang Districts.

The earthquake that occurred on February 1, 2023, that night only caused material losses due to damaged houses, while there were no fatalities.
