Police Have Offended The Smuggling Of Migrant Workers To Malaysia

JAKARTA - The police have succeeded in uncovering allegations of criminal acts of attempted smuggling of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to Malaysia in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan Province.

"We have secured the perpetrator. On Saturday (4/2) we received information that there was a car from the Sei snake port to the RI-Malaysia border. It is suspected that the car was carrying PMI which was to be dispatched to Malaysia," said Nunukan Police Chief Iptu Sony Dwi Hermawan, quoted from Antara, Sunday.

From the results of the investigation, the car driven by the perpetrator with the initials MS (21 years) also brought five Indonesian citizens from East Nusa Tenggara. According to the perpetrator's statement to the police, they were taken by the perpetrators to be entered into Malaysia illegally or via the rat route.

The police then moved to develop and found that there were still four adults at home and one other child. They will also be put into Malaysia via the rat route by the perpetrator.

"From there, we will secure the perpetrators and evidence to the Nunukan Police for further processing," he said.

The police suspect that the perpetrator carried out the modus operandi by deliberately sending or inserting several PMI candidates into Malaysia without legal documents and without going through procedures that have been regulated by law for personal gain.

For this act, the perpetrator was charged with Article 120 paragraph (2) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration and/or Article 81 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning PMI Protection.
