Empty Promises of Departure of 106 Prospective Umrah Pilgrims in Bogor, Perpetrator Mmade A Loss Of IDR 1.8 Billion

JAKARTA - The Bogor City Police uncovered a fraudulent case involving an Umrah departure by a person with the initials CV which had harmed 106 prospective pilgrims with a total loss of IDR 1.8 billion.

Bogor City Police Chief Commissioner Bismo Teguh Prakoso said this case was uncovered thanks to a report by one of the victims, ES, who lost IDR 200 million for 10 of his family who was going to go for Umrah.

"So this victim reported to us, brought 10 family members, suffered a loss of IDR 200 million promised to leave in December 2022 yesterday, but did not depart", said Commissioner Bismo, Thursday, February 2, reported by Antara.

From the ES report, the Bogor City Police then secured the suspected perpetrator and examined the witnesses and CV as the alleged perpetrator.

From the results of the examination, 106 people had not successfully departed. Even though they were promised to leave in 2022. All the total losses for prospective Umrah pilgrims reached IDR 1.8 billion.

The police have also confiscated evidence in the form of printed bank statements, and evidence of conversations, then there are account books and vaccination certificates.

"This is proof of the chat conversation, then here are the ID cards, passports of the victims, yes, and equipment for Umrah", he said.

At present, said Commissioner Bismo, the perpetrator has been detained and is being charged under Article 372 Junto 378 of the Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of 4 years in prison. The Bogor City Police will also open a complaint post so that people who feel they are victims can report it to police officers.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bogor City Police, Kompol Rizka Fadhila, added that the alleged perpetrator with the initials CV had been carrying out activities to send the Umrah pilgrimage around since 2020.

CV promises to be able to depart for Umrah at a low cost of IDR 5 million to IDR 12.5 million, where the average normal fee is more or less IDR 20 million.

"Now the difference from that deficiency, is he uses from other customers. So the system closes holes, digs holes to depart for Umrah with two or three other people behind waiting their turn", he explained.

However, said Rizka, there have been more and more years and finally, for today's data that we can collect in December 2022 there are approximately 106 who still cannot depart with a total of billions of rupiah in money.
