BPBD Prepares 267 Teams To Anticipate Early Warning Potential Floods In Jakarta Today

JAKARTA - The South Jakarta (Jaksel) area has the potential for heavy rain to lead to flooding today, Friday 20 January. Anticipating the early warning from the BMKG, the DKI BPBD has alerted 267 rapid reaction teams (TRC) in every urban village in Jakarta.

"As an effort to accelerate coordination and disaster management," said Head of the DKI BPBD Data and Information Processing Implementation Unit Michael Sitanggang in Jakarta, Friday, January 20.

Other efforts prepared by the DKI BPBD to anticipate the peak of extreme weather in Jakarta include coordinating with BNPB, BMKG, mayors or regents to collaborate in disaster management.

In addition, providing information on the dynamics of weather conditions and early warning related to rising water levels through disaster early warning (DEWS) and short message information and weather early warning via websites, social media, WhatsApp and Telegram application messages.

"We are also distributing flood handling supporting facilities and infrastructure to every urban village in flood-prone areas, such as boats, ring buoys, life jackets and others," he said.

Michael said the BPBD also ensures the readiness of disaster management posts and evacuation sites, including supporting equipment at the administrative city/district, sub-district and urban village levels to be on standby and activated when a disaster occurs.

On the other hand, the DKI BPBD urges the public to prepare protection, especially for those who are going to do outdoor activities, such as bringing umbrellas, jackets, hats or raincoats.

In addition, for pedestrians and vehicle users to stay away from areas around waterways or open culverts to avoid mired incidents.

Michael asked the public to always monitor information on weather developments submitted by DKI BPBD through the bpbd.jakarta.go.id page and BPBD social media.

In addition, emergency complaint channels include telephone calls at 112 or through the JAKI application to report incidents of flooding or inundation.

Previously, the BMKG asked the public to be wary of flooding in the South Jakarta area because it was estimated that there would be the potential for extreme weather this Friday.

BMKG issued an early warning regarding flooding in the South Jakarta area and the potential for thunderstorms in other areas in DKI.

Even so, the BMKG did not specify the areas in South Jakarta that have the potential for flooding.

Meanwhile, the BMKG predicts that the weather in DKI Jakarta entering the afternoon will not be the same as this morning. During the day it is estimated that West Jakarta, South Jakarta and East Jakarta will rain with lightning.
