RIAU - The Bengkalis Police Criminal Investigation Unit failed to send underage workers to Malaysia. It is suspected that women that year will depart as illegal migrant workers.
Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bengkalis Police, AKP Muhammad Reza, said the incident was uncovered after the police received information that a woman had asked for protection at a resident's house.
Officers went straight to the intended location in Rimbas Sekampung Village, Bengkalis Regency, Riau, to pick up the victim with the initials PF on Monday 16 January.
During interrogation, the victim showed an identity that was known to be born in 2001. However, after checking with the Population and Civil Registration Service (Disdukcapil), it turned out that the victim's Identity Card was faked by changing the year of birth.
"It turns out that PF is a girl born in 2006 with domicile in Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province," said Reza.
Based on the victim's statement, PF was initially promised to depart as a female worker (TKW) from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to Saudi Arabia with three other people.
But while in Jakarta, PF was notified by the container with the initials DN that PF would not go to Saudi Arabia, and was promised to depart for Malaysia by sea from Selat Baru Port.
"In Bengkalis, the victim felt suspicious because the passport that was given was a tourist passport, not a worker's passport. PF then fled, while her three friends left for Malaysia with DN who is currently still being searched for," said Reza.
