An Earthquake with M 6.1 In Gorontalo, Which Areas Were Affected?

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 shook Gorontalo, referring to the results of the latest BMKG analysis. The earthquake occurred Wednesday January 18 at 07.34.46 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) in Tomini Bay, Bone Bolango, Gorontalo.

The epicenter was located in the sea at a distance of 28 km south of Bulawa, Bone Bolango, Gorontalo at a depth of 148 km.

Taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the Gorontalo earthquake is a type of intraslab earthquake with medium depth due to rock deformation in the Sangihe Plate under Tomini Bay. The results of the analysis of the source mechanism indicate that the earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism.

This earthquake had an impact and was felt in the Luwuk and Ampana areas with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI (when many people were feeling it during the day), Kotamobagu area, Gorontalo Regency, Pohuwato Regency, East Bolaang Mongondow, North Bolaang Mongondow.

This includes Bolaang Mongondow, City of Gorontalo, Taliabu, Southeast Minahasa, Boalemo, South Minahasa, Toli-Toli, Poso, and Kab. Bone Bolango with an intensity scale of III MMI (Vibration felt real inside the house. Vibration felt as if a truck was passing), North Gorontalo, Sanana, and Palu Regencies with an intensity scale of II-III MMI (Vibration felt by several people, light objects that hanging swaying), Ternate, Morowali, Manado, South Halmahera and Labuha areas with an intensity scale of II MMI (Vibration felt by several people, light objects that were hung swayed).

"The modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," the BMKG wrote in its official press release.

Residents are asked not to be influenced by wild issues which usually will be going around a lot. Residents were also asked to avoid buildings that were cracked or damaged by the earthquake.
