RIAU - The Riau Regional Police are now hunting down hoax video spreaders showing victims of violence by motorcycle gangs as if it had happened in the city of Pekanbaru, making people uneasy.

Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimum) of Riau Police, Kombes Pol. Asep Darmawan in Pekanbaru, Sunday, confirmed that the 17-second video showing a man covered in blood caused by a motorcycle gang did not occur in the Pekanbaru area.

"We will arrest those who spread this hoax," he said in a written statement, Sunday, January 15.

Asep stated that the incident in the viral video occurred in the Warujayeng Village, Tanjunganom District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java, and was reported to the Warujayeng Police on Friday, January 6.

"Not in Pekanbaru. We have checked seven emergency rooms at hospitals in Pekanbaru, no people have come for treatment as victims of abuse," he said.

His party will take firm action against irresponsible people by spreading videos on social media and causing fear in the community.

"Currently the Riau Police will conduct an investigation and find out who spread the information saying the incident in Nganjuk happened in Pekanbaru. We will arrest the party who first spread the information," he said.

It was previously known, after the video was circulated that it was said to have happened in Pekanbaru, people felt anxious and afraid to go out at night. The video also reads that the incident occurred at Parit Indah Street, Pekanbaru, and because the victim was abused by a robber. However, it was later confirmed that the incident occurred in Nganjuk, East Java.

However, Asep also appealed to the public to be cautious when going out late at night to avoid unwanted things.
