JAKARTA - Lu from Zhejiang, China, was annoyed with a crab that pinched his daughter. Without thinking, the crab was taken and immediately eaten raw.

But unfortunately, Lu actually became sick 2 months later.

Everything came to light when he was examined by doctors at a hospital in Hangzhou for severe back pain for two months, the South China Morning Post reported.

Doctor Cao Qian who examined him asked, "Why do you eat live crabs?".

"I want revenge for my daughter," said Lu at the time.

"While we were by the river, my daughter was pinched by a small crab, so I got angry and put it in my mouth to take revenge," continued Lu.

Cao said Lu finally admitted to eating crab after his wife mentioned the incident to doctors, who were confused by the pathological changes in her chest, stomach, liver, and digestive system.

"We repeatedly asked him if he had ever eaten anything unusual, anything that could cause allergies. He said no to all," said Cao.

Blood tests later showed Lu had three parasitic infections from eating live crabs. He is recovering but will require follow-up.

While crab is usually cooked in China, it is sometimes served raw but marinated in alcohol – hence the name “drunk crab” – in Zhejiang, where Lu is from, and neighboring provinces, according to the Morning Post.

"Theoretically it's better to eat something salted rather than really raw because it has been treated with alcohol which can help kill parasites and bacteria," said Cao.

"But it can't kill all the parasites, so it's not 100 percent safe either."
