Russia Launches Four Missiles at Mykolaiv: Destroys Apartments, Kills Locals

JAKARTA - Russia fired four missiles at the southern Ukrainian port city of Mykolaiv overnight, destroying half an apartment building and killing one resident, a day after unleashing a barrage of missiles in several cities, including the capital Kyiv.

Entering the 250th day of warfare since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Russian missiles rained down on the entire country. Explosions exploded in Kyiv, sending black smoke into the sky.

Russian troops opened fire on infrastructure in at least six regions of Ukraine on Monday, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement on Facebook.

Rescue workers recovered the body of an elderly woman from the rubble of an apartment block early Tuesday, Reuters witnesses said, as quoted on November 1.

"This is what mobs of barbarians do", said Irena Siden, 48, the school's deputy director, standing in front of the destroyed building as workers began sweeping the rubble.

"They (Russians) are descendants of barbarian mobs. They stole our history and how they tried to steal our culture", she said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday's missile attacks on several Ukrainian cities targeting infrastructure and the decision to freeze participation in the Black Sea grain export program were a response to drone attacks on Moscow's fleet in Crimea that he blamed on Ukraine.

Kyiv has not claimed responsibility for the attack and denies using the wheat program security corridor for military purposes. The United Nations said no grain ships were using the Black Sea route on Saturday when Russia said its ships in Crimea were under attack.

"That's not all we can do", President Putin said at a televised news conference, suggesting more action could be taken.

Ukrainian officials say energy infrastructure, including hydro-electric dams, was hit, crippling electricity, heat, and water supplies.

Synehubov, governor of the northeastern region of Kharkiv, said on Telegram that about 140,000 residents had lost power after the attack, including about 50,000 residents of the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city.

Russia has been attacking Ukraine's civilian infrastructure using long-range missiles and Iranian-made "suicide drones" over the past three weeks.

Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, said 18 targets, mostly energy infrastructure, were hit by missiles and drone strikes on 10 Ukrainian regions on Monday.
