JAKARTA - Iran has designed a drone, named Arash-2, specifically to target the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa, a senior military commander in the country said.

"We have designed this drone specifically for Haifa and Tel Aviv. It is a unique drone developed for this task," state media quoted Kioumars Heydari, commander of the Iranian army's ground forces, as saying.

"Iran will unveil the capabilities of these drones in future exercises."

In response, the director of the Israeli spy service Mossad David Barnea warned Iranian authorities not to commit violence against Israel or Israeli citizens.

"Iran's top echelons must realize, using force against Israel or Israeli citizens, directly from Iran or through proxies, will meet a painful response against those responsible on Iranian soil," Barnea said in a speech at Reichman University near Tel Aviv. Citing Jerusalem Post.

"This will happen in Tehran, in Kermanshah, in Isfahan," he added, referring to Iranian territories where authorities have reported sabotage operations, against facilities or personnel linked to the country's military or nuclear programmes.

It is known that Israel has threatened military action against Iran if diplomacy fails to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons capabilities.

Meanwhile, Iran does not recognize Israel and Iranian military commanders have repeatedly threatened to attack the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Attempts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, which Israel opposes, have not been successful since negotiations began in Vienna in April 2021.

The 2015 Nuclear Deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), offered sanctions relief to Iran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

Israel believes the deal is too generous for Tehran and opposes US and EU efforts to restore it.
