As Long As There Is No Strong Evidence, Putri Candrawathi's Confession About Sexual Harassment Does Not Interfere The Handling Of Brigadier J's Case

JAKARTA - University of Indonesia (UI) criminologist, Josias Simon, believes that the alleged sexual assault against Inspector General Ferdy Sambo's wife, Putri Candrawathi, will not obscure the investigation into the Brigadier J murder case because the allegations do not yet have solid evidence.

"Especially what is the evidence? Because in the realm of investigation it is necessary to clarify all findings and existing instructions," said Josias in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 6.

Josias said that the alleged sexual assault by Brigadier J against Putri Candrawati was too early.

According to him, it is possible that the alleged sexual assault was to lighten the sentences for the suspects in the murder of Brigadier J.

"Because we talk about the motive that will determine the article of the crime, because it's in order to obscure or minimize the punishment," said Josias

However, said Josias, the Special Police Team must continue to explore and re-verify the alleged sexual violence against Putri Candrawati.

According to him, the new findings of Komnas HAM are based on the testimony of witnesses and victims.

"Is it in accordance with the existing one. So input or additions that need to be verified again," he said again.

Previously, the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) found allegations of sexual assault by Brigadier J against Candrawathi, Sambo's wife.

From the report on the results of Komnas HAM monitoring and investigation submitted by Komnas HAM Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara, in Jakarta, Thursday (1/9), allegations of sexual violence occurred in Magelang, Thursday (7/7).

The incident occurred after Candrawati celebrated her wedding anniversary at around 00.00 WIB.

Referring to the Act on the Crime of Sexual Violence, one piece of evidence, namely the victim's statement can be reported and processed by law. This is different from the pattern of sentencing where two valid pieces of evidence are needed.
