TNI Soldiers Work Together To Help Residents Of Banggai, Central Sulawesi, Build Houses Destroyed By Floods

PALU - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) said Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel helped residents rebuild houses destroyed by floods in Indang Sari Village, East Luwuk District.

"The housing that was built is a simple house on the site of a former house that was swept away by assistance from the parties, including the assistance from the Kodim 1308/Luwuk Banggai, and currently the TNI is still collecting building materials," said Banggai BPBD Head Mujiono as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 5.

Mujiono has not yet specified the number of shelters that the TNI will build to help residents whose houses were hit by floods on Tuesday (30/8) due to overflowing rivers.

He explained, until the sixth day after the flood in Indang Sari and Pohi villages the situation was gradually conducive, and the local government was currently carrying out restoration work with the assistance of the TNI/Polri.

Building material assistance from various parties is solely for humanity, therefore this effort really helps ease the burden on residents affected by the disaster.

"In Indang Sari Village, six houses were swept away by the flood, the total number of houses heavily damaged in two severely affected villages was approximately 24 houses, 15 of them in Indang Sari Village and nine houses in Pohi Village," said Mujiono.

Currently, approximately six heads of families (KK), especially residents who have lost their homes in Indang Sari Village, are still living in the refugee posts built by BPBD.

Likewise, public kitchens still serve the consumption needs of affected residents, which are managed by the Family Welfare Empowerment Mobilization Team (TP-PKK) in the local village and the Army Wives Association (Persit) Kodim 1308/Luwuk Banggai.

"Residents whose houses were heavily damaged in Pohi Village took refuge in their relatives. The Social Service has set up shelters in their respective homes for temporary occupancy," said Mujiono.

Residents who were only affected by the water immersion, he said, have now returned to their homes, while the government is trying to find housing for those severely affected, and the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase is still quite long, so residents are asked to be patient.

"The local Department of Housing and Settlements (Perkim) has proposed it to the regional head and then it is followed up to the Central and Central Sulawesi Provincial Governments," said Mujiono.
