JAKARTA - Two people were killed and at least five others injured in Sunday's shooting at a park in Los Angeles' San Pedro neighborhood, officials said.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred as a result of a dispute between the two parties at Peck Park, Los Angeles Police Department, Captain Kelly Muniz, said during a news conference.

"We are continuing to clear the park for additional evidence and possible victims", he said as reported by CNN on July 25.

Meanwhile, four men and three women were taken to a local hospital, firefighters said earlier, and two of the men were pronounced dead.

"We are investigating that there may have been more than one shooter", Muniz said. No one was detained that early Sunday morning.

While citing CBS News, Muniz said the ages of the victims ranged from 23 to 53 years. Gunshots were heard just before 4 pm. local time Sunday, according to the LAPD.

An informal car show was taking place in the park at the time, authorities said. Muniz told a press conference that the car show had attracted about 500 people to the park.

Separately, Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said the auto show was an informal gathering, not an officially scheduled event. As part of Southern California's car culture, classic car owners and low-key drivers often congregate in public places to show off their vehicles, reports The Guardian.

From the incident, several weapons were found at the scene, police said. Police have not reported whether they have identified the suspect.

The shooting in Los Angeles adds to the long list of dark cases of gun abuse in the United States after previously there were mass shootings in Highland Park, Illinois, Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York.

That has again sparked a heated debate about why such mass casualty events continue to occur in the United States and the need for new gun access laws.
