JAKARTA - The Indonesian team won six medals at the 2022 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Oslo, Norway.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in Jakarta, the Indonesian math olympiad team won one silver medal, four bronze medals, and one honorable mention medal at the 63rd IMO in Oslo.

In the event, Andrew Daniel Janong from SMAK 5 Penabur Jakarta received an Honorable Mention award and Rafael Kristoforus Yanto from SMAK Penabur Gading Serpong received a silver medal.

Meanwhile, Sandy Kristian Waluyo from SMAK Penabur Cirebon, Maulana Satya Adigama from SMA Taruna Nusantara in Central Java, Evelyn Lianto from SMAK Mawar Sharon Surabaya, and Vanya Priscillia from SMAK Petra 2 Surabaya received bronze medals.

"The results achieved by Indonesian students by getting one silver medal, four bronze medals, and one honorable mention are extraordinary achievements in the midst of various limitations experienced in the team coaching system during this pandemic," said Acting Head of the Achievement Center. National Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Asep Sukmayadi, Monday 18 July.

"The participants of this IMO, as has been proven before, in the future will become scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and economists who make major contributions to the advancement of science and technology," he added.

He stated that solving IMO math problems which include algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory requires high speed of thought, mental calm, and creativity.

The 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad in Oslo will take place from July 6 to 16, 2022.
