The Ministry Of Law And Human Rights Of South Sumatra Deploys A Team To Investigate The Death Of Convicts At Tanjung Raja Prison

South Sumatera - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) South Sumatra (South Sumatra) is investigating the case of the death of an inmate at Tanjung Raja Prison, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency.

Head of the Correctional Division of the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office, Bambang Haryanto, said that his party had dispatched a team after the death of the inmate with the initials AP on Saturday 9 July.

The team started the investigation work by checking whether the prison officers had carried out their duties in accordance with the established standard operating procedures (SOPs).

With this investigation, Bambang hopes that the team can uncover the facts that caused the death of a prisoner, whether there was an element of officer negligence and SOP errors or other factors such as congenital disease.

Meanwhile, the head of Tanjung Raja Batara Prison, Hutasoit, explained that AP entered and underwent training since March 14, 2021. AP was sentenced to six years in prison, a subsidiary to one year in prison in a narcotics case.

While in prison, AP frequently visited the Tanjung Raja prison clinic with complaints of abdominal pain and nausea. Before he died, AP complained of the same condition as the clinic staff so far.

According to Batara, Friday, July 8, at around 21.00 western Indonesia time, AP was examined by prison health officers. Subsequently, AP was referred to the Kayu Agung Hospital on Saturday, July 9, at 06.05 western Indonesia time, and AP was declared dead by the hospital staff.

"We express our deepest condolences for the death of a resident of Tanjung Raja Prison with the initials AP," he said.
