Drowning In Ketapang Waters, 8 Crews Of KLM Maju Indah Rescued By KRI Sembilang-850

PONTIANAK - KRI Sembilang-850 Navy Main Base XII Pontianak rescued eight crew members of the KLM Maju Indah ship that reportedly sank in the waters of Ketapang, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan).

"The rescue of the eight crew members of the KLM Maju Indah ship that sank was successfully carried out in the Java Sea, at a position 100 m southwest of Ketapang," said Head of Navy Main Base Ketapang, Marine Lt. Col. (P) Bambang Nugroho in his statement, as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 13.

Bambang explained that the initial information obtained on Monday, July 11 at 16:45 western Indonesia time, Navy Main Base XII received a report that the KLM Maju Indah ship had sunk in the Gosong Aling waters of the Java Sea or in the Karimata Strait.

The ship with a length of 26.09 meters and a width of 9.50 meters departs from Gresik to Pontianak on July 8, 2022, at around 16.00 western Indonesia time.

Then, on July 11, 2022, at 15.00 western Indonesia time, the ship loaded with fertilizer and grocery items was hit by the waves and sank in the Gosong Aling waters of the Karimata Strait.

"The ship was carrying 190 tons of dolomite fertilizer, 100 tons of SP 36 fertilizer, 10 tons of granite, and 30 tons of grocery materials. All these loads were brought by agents from PT Ekasari Bahari and the owner of the goods from PT Rezeki Murni Setia," he explained.

Furthermore, on July 11, 2022, at 16.50 western Indonesia time, the Head of Pontianak SAR coordinated with Navy Main Base XII Patrol Unit (F1QR) and at around 17.30 western Indonesia time sent a message that KRI Sembilang-850 departed from Ketapang for the location.

"On July 12, 2022, at approximately 08.45 to 09.15 western Indonesia time, the crew of KRI Sembilang rescued eight crew members. However, the ship and cargo could not be saved because it was fully submerged. Next, KRI SBL-850 headed for Ketapang Port," he said.

Then, at 17.45 western Indonesia time, KRI Sembilang-850 arrived in Ketapang and at around 18.10 western Indonesia time the Ketapang Navy Base Health team and the Health Quarantine Team carried out an examination of the KLM Maju Indah crew.

"After the health checks for the eight crew members were carried out, we handed them over to the ship's agent, Adrian. And everything went smoothly," he said.
