CIANJUR - The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol-PP) in Cianjur, West Java, confiscated thousands of packs of illegal cigarettes in several places that residents reported as distributing cigarettes without excise which were considered to have harmed the state.

The head of the Cianjur Satpol PP, Hendri Prasetyadi in Cianjur on Thursday, June 23, said 9,000 packs of illegal cigarettes had been secured from several stalls and distributors spread from the north to the south of Cianjur, where the circulation of cigarettes without excise is rampant.

"We received many reports related to the circulation of illegal cigarettes, so we carried out joint operations to several points where there were reports of widespread circulation of illegal cigarettes, especially roadside stalls", he said, quoted by Antara.

Several stalls that sell illegal cigarettes are also distributors, but his party only records and warns the owners not to sell illegal cigarettes anymore because they can be subject to criminal sanctions. His party will continue to monitor the circulation of illegal cigarettes so that they are no longer traded.

In fact, he said, his party has carried out several operations with the Intermediate A Customs Customs Service Office, Bogor. In this joint operation, they managed to confiscate around 3,000 packs of illegal cigarettes without excise from roadside stalls in the north and east of Cianjur.

"We will continue to carry out joint operations randomly so that the circulation of illegal cigarettes no longer occurs in Cianjur. For traders who return to selling illegal cigarettes, strict action will be taken, including agents or distributors. We are still developing information regarding the big city", said Hendri.

He also appealed to residents not to buy illegal cigarettes without excise because it is detrimental to the state and to immediately report if they find the circulation of cigarettes in the area where they live. "So far, we have been helped by reports and information from residents in various areas in Cianjur", he said.
