JAKARTA - Harun Masiku, who is a former legislative candidate (caleg) who bribed the former Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU) has been on the run for 850 days or almost three years. It is believed that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will continue to argue about the search for the fugitive.

Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Kurnia Ramadhana believes the KPK will continue to argue when it comes to the search for their fugitive, Harun Masiku. This belief arises because it has been 850 days since the anti-corruption commission has not been able to find a former candidate who ran for the 2019 general election.

"We believe that until the end of Firli and colleagues' term as KPK commissioners, the anti-corruption agency will continue to argue with all its arguments to delay the search for Harun Masiku," Kurnia said in a written statement to reporters, Thursday, May 19.

However, ICW admitted that he was not surprised by this kind of action from the KPK. This is because Harun has not been caught yet, allegedly because the Chairman of the KPK, Firli Bahuri, is afraid of the figure allegedly related to the fugitive.

Kurnia also said that all statements from the KPK regarding the search for Harun Masiku were merely lip service.

"Even if there are statements, both Firli and the Acting Spokesperson for KPK Enforcement, we suspect it is just lip service," he said.

The KPK previously confirmed that they had been hunting for the fugitives, including Harun Masiku. Those who run and whose whereabouts cannot be found will certainly not be able to sleep well.

"There are several people that the KPK is looking for. I'm not mentioning one by one but not just one person, there are at least six people we are still looking for," Firli told reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, 18 May.

Firli said Harun and the other fugitives who were not further specified would continue to be searched for at any time. The KPK is currently just waiting for time.

"I'm sure to this day he can't sleep well. Because the KPK will look for him at any time. It's only a matter of time before he will be caught," said the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK.

Some time ago, the Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Karyoto had also stated that the search for Harun and other fugitives from the KPK was ongoing and never stopped.

Apart from Harun, the fugitives are Kirana Kotama, Izil Azhar, and Surya Darmadi.

"The problem with some DPOs, we don't talk specifically about Harun Masiku and anyone else, of course, it's our obligation to carry out a search," said Karyoto some time ago.

He agreed that the COVID-19 pandemic had indeed made the KPK's steps to find its fugitives experiencing problems. However, with the improvement in current conditions, it is hoped that the search will be maximized and quickly produce bright spots.

"We are grateful that the current situation of the pandemic has begun to decline, hopefully it will decrease day by day and in time it will disappear and we as investigators have sufficient access to move to search both here, domestically and abroad," he concluded.
