JAKARTA - Maluku Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) officers, Saumlaki Region III Conservation Section, and the Tanimbar Resort Police released 88 Tanimbar parrots (Eos reticulata) in the Amdasa Village Forest, Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku, Wednesday 18 May.
According to the forest police, the tanimbar parrot released in the Amdasa Village Forest was confiscated from the perpetrators of the wildlife trade crime in Saumlaki City.
"The release was carried out by the BKSDA and the Resort Police, plus the perpetrators witnessed it directly", said Seto, a forest police officer, via the WhatsApp message service, Thursday, May 19, quoted from Antara.
He added that the Tanimbar Resort Police were still investigating the wildlife trade case.
Tanimbar parrots are protected wild animals according to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry concerning protected plant and animal species.
The conservation organization International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) includes the parrot on its list of endangered species.
