JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) forcibly summoned former Riau Governor, Annas Maamun. This forced summons was made because he was not cooperative in responding to the investigator's summons.

Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, said Annas was picked up at his residence in Pekanbaru, Riau today, Wednesday, March 30.

"The KPK investigation team forcibly summoned AM, the Governor of Riau for the 2014-2019 period from his residence in Pekanbaru, Riau", Ali said in a written statement.

According to VOI monitoring, Annas arrived at the KPK's Merah Puth Building at around 16.20 WIB. He arrived with an escort from KPK officers and was seen wearing a white shirt.

Ali stated that the investigators had previously summoned Annas properly and legally. However, the former governor was not present.

"The order to bring Annas Maamun was carried out because the KPK considered that he was not cooperative in attending to the summons of the KPK investigators team", he said.

"Next AM is taken to the KPK's Red and White Building for further examination", added Ali.

The Corruption Eradication Commission has not provided further details regarding the corruption case that ensnared Annas Maamun. Ali asked the public to be patient waiting for further developments.

"Further developments will be informed", concluded Ali.

Previously, Annas Maamun, a convict in the bribery case for land conversion, received clemency from President Joko Widodo, due to his deteriorating health condition. The granting of clemency is stated in Presidential Decree number 23/G of 2019 concerning the granting of clemency on October 25.

Jokowi pardoned Annas after considering humanity. He has also heard input from the Supreme Court and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, for granting this clemency.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, provided input to President Jokowi regarding the clemency because Annas was often sick and had to use supplemental oxygen at all times.
