Komnas HAM Guards Three Cases Of Alleged Human Rights Violations In Papua

JAYAPURA - Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Ahmad Taufan Damanik said his party was overseeing cases of alleged human rights violations that occurred in three areas in Papua.

"It is true that there are three cases that are currently being escorted to the legal process due to allegations of human rights violations. Two of them are in Papua, namely the Paniai and Wamena cases, while the other case occurred in Wasior, West Papua," Ahmad Damanik said to Antara in Jayapura, as reported by Antara, Monday, March 21.

He said Komnas HAM had also met a number of officials, including the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa and the National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, so that the case can be pushed to court.

He added that the two high-ranking officials in the TNI and Polri had already expressed their support. Komnas HAM also asked for the support of the Papuan Regional Police Chief and the XVII Cenderawasih Regional Military Commander, he added.

"Monday, we have visited the Cenderawasih Military Commander and the Papuan Police Chief," he said.

He said there were two options in resolving the case of alleged human rights violations, namely the judiciary or through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
