JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) received 122 reports of alleged violations in Singkarak Lake, Solok Regency, West Sumatra. The report relates to allegations of misuse of functions.

"The violation is in the form of abuse of the function of Lake Singkarak, by changing the lips or borders of the lake to hoard its waters to make various types of buildings for personal interests", said the Head of KPK Prevention Task Force for the Coordination and Supervision Region IV, Wahyudi, in a written statement, Thursday, March 17.

Wahyudi reminded that Lake Singkarak is one of the lakes that are included in the 15 national priority lakes. Thus, its use should not be based on personal interests.

Concerning the report, several things have been done. Together with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) and the Solok Regency Government, the KPK has sought to restore the function of Lake Singkarak.

This step, continued Wahyudi, is included in the Priority Lake Rescue Program. As for things that have been done, among others, by stipulating buildings that are already standing in the lake area in the status quo or cannot be changed and dismantling them gradually.

Furthermore, Wahyudi said that the cooperation of various government agencies to save national priority lakes, including Lake Singkarang, needed to be carried out.

"Lake Singkarak as a state property must be secured from takeover attempts by a handful of irresponsible parties. Of course with synergy from the regional government and related ministries/institutions", he stressed.

However, this step is easier to do if the local government helps and provides support. "We also hope that from what we are doing, the legal apparatus will also be involved. So that there are persuasive efforts to save state or regional wealth", he concluded.
