JAKARTA - City planning observer from Trisakti University, Yayat Supriatna said several aspects must be considered in the development of the National Capital City (IKN) Nusantara to ensure elements of sustainability, including designs and buildings that encourage energy savings.

"For a forest city, the city is automatically designed how the concept of harmony with nature can be realized, we know that this is in a forest area. Second, it is capable of not creating a micro-climate, which means making the city cooler, cooler, more comfortable," Yayat said when contacted, on Monday 14 March.

To overcome the hot air, the design of IKN Nusantara must be able to create shade, for that it is necessary to pay attention to the greenery and vegetation factors in its construction.

In addition, another important element to ensure an environmentally friendly concept is the use of energy to a minimum, and the energy used is included in the type of new renewable energy.

The academic at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Technology at Trisakti University said that to achieve energy savings, the city must be designed to create spaces that are able to provide coolness and natural lighting.

"Seeing from the design concept of the building, the automatic design has really paid attention to the use of energy that can be saved. The building is also not too tall, meaning it doesn't use a lot of electricity," he said.

He stressed the impact of a design was critical to achieving this goal, with an emphasis on the abundance of trees and canopies as well as ensuring they are water-friendly.

"There must be a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) that he must have achievement targets, there are achievement measures that must be prepared and realized. So, this is where the planners, the architecture, the contractors really have to understand," said Yayat.

Previously, in the IKN Master Plan contained in Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning IKN it was explained that the new state capital would combine three concepts, namely a forest city, a sponge city and a smart city.

The concept of a forest city was created to ensure environmental sustainability with a minimum of 75 percent green area, and the IKN plan is woven into the concept of a sustainable master plan to balance the natural ecology, built-up areas and existing social systems in harmony.
