Tangerang Prison Fire Continuation Session, Officers Admit Not Hearing Alarm Sounds

TANGERANG - The continuation trial of the Tangerang Class 1 prison fire case was again held at the Tangerang District Court. The agenda this time is the examination of witnesses, namely the Head of Tangerang Class I Prison Security Adhiyansyah, Sasongko Ari Wibowo from PLN and the Tangerang City BPBD Platoon Commander Sarpa Wasesa.

One of the Tangerang Class 1 prison officers, Adhiyansyah, admitted that he did not hear the alarm or bell when a fire broke out in his place.

The confession was revealed when the presiding judge asked whether Adhiyansyah had heard the bell when the prison was on fire. Adhiyansyah also admitted that he did not hear the sound of the alarm or the bell at that time.

"I came without any sound (bells or alarms). But I heard about the fire in the HT (handy talky)," he said, Monday, March 7.

Adhiyansyah's statement is in line with the testimony of Tangerang Class I Prison Pickup Officer Doni Saputra who was presented at the previous trial, on 22 February. Doni admitted that he did not hear the bell on September 8, 2021.

"I didn't hear," he explained.

"You didn't hear?" the panel of judges affirmed.

"Yes (not to hear the bell)," answered Doni.

In the trial agenda on the same date, the Deputy Commander of the Tangerang Class I Prison Guard Ian Sofyan also admitted that there were no bells ringing when the prison was on fire.

"The night of the incident heard (the ringing of the bell)?" the panel of judges asked at that time.

"No," he answered simply.
