JAKARTA - Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, supports trilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Tuesday.

"In our meeting with President Zelenskiy, he stated that he is open to a trilateral meeting between Putin, Zelenskiy, and Erdogan", President Erdogan explained to reporters on the presidential plane on his way back from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), citing Daily Sabah on February 16.

President Erdogan further said such a meeting would take place in Istanbul or Ankara, with him going to discuss the matter with President Putin over a phone call, to see what he thinks about the proposal.

"We will follow this issue because a real war breaking out in the region does not bode well", President Erdogan said, adding that war would have a negative impact on the region.

It is known, Turkey has been following developments and in close contact with Kyiv and Moscow. Ankara also offered to mediate the talks between them.

Meanwhile, President Putin has accepted President Erdogan's invitation to visit Turkey amid tensions, plans to travel after the pandemic and schedule allows, the Kremlin said.

To note, Turkey shares the Black Sea with Ukraine and Russia. While forging cooperation in defense and energy, Turkey has opposed Moscow's policies in Syria and Libya, as well as its annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014. Turkey has also sold Ukraine advanced drones, which infuriated Russia.
